As a child, I LOVED Wonder Woman. She encompassed everything I wanted to be. I could relate to her on so many levels (and often compared myself to her - in my mind of course) because she was larger than life - (I have always been taller than my peers); she was strong - could kick any body's ass at any given moment; she was beautiful - a person could get lost for days in her eyes - I had light brown eyes and most of all her mission seemed to be saving the world from misfits - I definitely am a "captain save a hoe" too. In addition to all those wonderful personality traits, she had the coolest accessories - the invisible plane, the bracelets/bangles (that could deflect bullets) and the truth lasso!
As an adult, I realize that watching her as a youth set the tone for my future. I have always been a chameleon of sorts, meaning that I morph into different personalities depending on who I am dealing with. I have asked people from my past what I was like when they knew me and it is always different than I see myself actually being. They all say that I wasn't no punk "I guess I could talk the talk", I was a good listener - never been one to ear hustle people; a good friend - they lost me on that one, cause as a rule, I normally don't like to be bothered; and lastly I was dependable - accept when I did not show for my best friends kids birthday parties (she still holds that against me).
As I've stated before I had my kids EARLY and was forced to grow up quick. Consequently I was forced to multi-task. I was still in school, had to work, feed kids, play with kids, maintain a household by cooking and cleaning and still have a personal life with friends and such. I was able to do this because I had good examples to learn from such as my mother, my grandmother - who had 11 kids; and my aunts who were holding it down, as well as TV wonder woman - Linda Carter.
All of this rambling to say/ask what kind of mother are you, watch what you allow your children to see, because they are definitely paying attention - I WAS!!!
To all the Wonder Women out there, I salute you!
